The annual Munich Jewellery Week showcases innovative contemporary jewellery by both established and up-and-coming designers from around the world. It is the most significant event for the contemporary jewellery community, and it sets the pace for the entire field.
Every year MJW welcome people from all walks of the jewellery industry – from makers and collectors to students and educators come to Munich to be inspired by MJW’s diverse programme. Everything from artist-run exhibitions, book launches and lectures, to performances, mobile presentations and parties. What began as a handful of independent city exhibitions, has gradually and organically expanded to now include a remarkable 100+ initiatives, establishing in the process a dynamic self-organised community of local and international artists.
MJW is an independent initiative that supports and communicates information about the jewellery exhibitions that are held across the city each year. MJW runs in parallel with the International Trade Fair for the Skilled Trades and its historic jewellery exhibitions: Meister der Moderne, Schmuck and Talente.
Jewellery Magazine and Platform Current Obsession, coined the title Munich Jewellery Week in 2015 to give a name to this extraordinary collective effort. It is now associated with other professional fashion and design weeks around the world. Current Obsession aims to represent the multitude of exciting independent events as a whole, to give them a recognisable visual identity and to offer clear information to new participants, press and international visitors.
